Background. Body weight, body mass index, fibrinogen concentration and relative plasma viscosity can contribute to the development of hypertension in T2DM‑MetS (Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with Metabolic Syndrome). This study compares body weight, body mass index, fibrinogen concentration and relative plasma viscosity between hypertensive diabetics and normotensive T2DM-MetS.

Objectives: This study compares relative plasma viscosity and fibrinogen concentration between hypertensive T2DM‑MetS and normotensive T2DMMetS patients.

Methods: The present study was enrolling normotensive and hypertensive T2DM‑MetS patients from private clinic in Surabaya Indonesia. A total of 125 subjects between 27‑88 years of age were selected. Out of these, 88 subjects were norinotensive T2DM-MetS and 37 were hypertensive T2DM‑MetS. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures, fibrinogen concentration and relative plasma viscosity were measured and compared.

Results: Fibrinogen concentration and relative plasma viscosity were all higher in hypertensive T2DM‑MetS than normotensive diabetics but statistically was not significant.

Conclusion: There was no statistically significant correlation between relative value of plasma viscosity level in normotensive and hypertensive T2DM‑MetS patients. There were also no statistically significant correlation between relative value of fibrinogen concentration in normotensive and hypertensive T2DM‑MetS.
