Construction of fiber optic sensor for micro-displacement measurement based on reflective intensity modulation technique

Abstact :

Optical fiber sensor is constructed to measure a micro-displacement of reflective object using a concentric multimode optical fiber bundle with one transmitting fiber and sixteen receiving fiber as a probe. The sensor uses a light source with visible wavelength of 632.8 nm and output power 1mW, and a silicon detector with model 818-SL (Newport). The sensor is capable of measuring the displacement of mirror with sensitivity of approximately 0.1688mV/mm over a range of 50 to 350 mm region and approximately -0.0298mV/mm over a range of 1050 to 2200 mm region. The high sensitivity and simplicity of the design make it suitable for variety of applications.
